Lovitt Records Oct News

10.05.2005

Hello everyone,

A lot of news as usual. We want to start with the good news that Haram has joined the Lovitt family.

The latest addition to the Lovitt Records roster, Haram's members boast an impressive hardcore pedigree, a resume that spans a decade and over 1000 shows between the individual members with stints in Majority Rule, Pg. 99, and the Out_Circuit. The band first assembled in summer 2004 and played their first show in January 2005 to coincide with the release of their demo, which they put out themselves. Since then, Haram has toured with critically acclaimed acts, such as Envy and Darkest Hour; they also toured the East Coast and the South for two weeks in spring 2005. The band recently recorded their first, self-titled LP, in Stoughton, MA . Unrelenting and forward, Haram possesses a mature, tempered confidence that only comes with experience and do-it-yourself resolve. Expect their full-length out early next year; the band will tour extensively in support of it, with plans to cover the U.S, Europe, and Japan . We will have more information and MP3s up on our site soon but in the meantime, visit their website at www.harammusic.com . We think you will be as excited as we are once you hear and see this band.

We are also really excited to announce we will be releasing a DVD from Denali. For those unfamiliar, Denali formed in 2000 when Maura Davis asked her brother, Engine Down's Keeley Davis, if he wanted to start a band with her. The band also featured Richmond locals Cam DiNunzio and Jonathan Fuller (Engine Down). After receiving glowing praise, releasing two full-lengths, and touring with the likes of the Deftones, Cursive, Sparklehorse, Clinic, Pinback, the Faint, the band decided that they should simply walk away rather than burn out. The DVD is entitled Pinnacle and contains over 85 minutes of content, including 44 minutes of concert footage, videos for "Hold your Breath" and "Relief," alternate angles for "The Instinct" and "Normal Days," over 150 pictures of the band members, 2 home movies shot by Cam, and a hidden Easter egg. We have a trailer of the DVD up on the media section of the website for preview. We hope to have a release date for you by the next update.

The new Rah Bras full length, WHOHM, will be released on November 7th. We will be taking pre-orders for it on our website in the next week or so and will send out a special announcement when that happens. For the last decade, the trio has been spelunking the nether regions of pop, pomp, and punk on a smattering of EPs and 2001's full length Ruy Blas. Their genre-defying audio promiscuity has fermented into the anvil-drop-rock of 2005's WHOHM. Heavy synths grind and squeal upon pure propulsion as lyrics wax solipsistic over the cyclical nature of all modren man's foists and foibles. Rogue song structures and plenty of surprises around every corner, Rah Bras continue to master the art of not boring themselves by subjugating the rock idiom to their every whim. Both bizarre and strangely accessible, WHOHM achieves the rare genius of genuine creation in a realm fraught with endless reference and carbon-copy replication of tired ideas. The band will be touring a lot over the next six months starting with some shows with Measles Mumps Rubella and VCR later this month.

Now for some unfortunate news: Del Cielo has announced the end of their collaboration. In these difficult times, their release catalogue of two full-lengths and varying 7"s and compilations is equally, if not more so, matched by their outstanding ethics and activism in both local and national communities. Aside from extensive touring and writing, the band, collectively and as individuals, continuously dedicated themselves to varying benefits, women's rights organizations, and political causes. With this disbanding comes the loss of a not only a wonderful musical endeavor, but a dwindling punk ethos of using the entity of a band as a means of activism and philanthropy. They will be missed by us and many other people from around the world.

The Grey's full-length, Asleep at the Wheel, has been sent off to be pressed and we hope to have a release date in the near future. We are really excited about the release and the band. Hopefully they will be able to tour the US at some point, although they plan to tour Canada , Europe, and Japan soon. We will also be releasing an online-only EP in the next few weeks. If you have not had a chance yet, check out the bands web site: http://thegreymusic.com.

The Lovitt live series, a series of digital-only releases, is up on iTunes and eMusic and will be up on other digital sites in the near future. The first couple are Frodus' "Live at Black Cat," Sleepytime Trio's "Live At Black Cat," and Ben Davis' "Live on XM Radio." More to be announced soon.

To anyone that videotaped or took pictures of the Lovitt 10 Year Anniversary show or the last Engine Down show in Richmond , we would really appreciate it if we could get copies for possible use in the next Lovitt DVD or the Engine Down DVD. You can email [email protected] with the subject "footage/pictures" for more information on how to get stuff to us. We can use anything you have!

On a semi-separate note, we are looking for high quality photos of the last Four Hundred Years show in Philadelphia. If you have any, please e mail: [email protected].

Matt Michel from Haram/Majority Rule designed some great posters for the Lovitt Anniversary show that he is selling on his site. He also has posters for Del Cielo's CD release party and Decahedron's first show ever.

Also, our friend Illeana who played with the Ben Davis band for awhile has a web site: http://www.indiaromeo.com where she sells amazing crafts that she designed and made.

This news update is getting long so we will save some stuff for the next update. Also, check the website as we sometimes add news there before we have a chance to send out updates.

Take care,

Lovitt

Del Cielo Says Farewell

09.23.2005

In unfortunate news, Del Cielo has announced the end of their collaboration. In these difficult times their release catalogue of the two full lengths and varying 7's and compilations is equally, if not more so, matched by their outstanding ethics and activism in both local and national communities. Aside from extensive touring and writing, the band, collectively and as individuals, continuously dedicated themselves to varying benefits, women's rights organizations, and political causes. With this disbanding comes the loss of a not only a wonderful musical endeavor, but a sadly,
a dwindling punk ethos of using the entity of a band as a means of activism
and philanthropy.

Katy Otto, their drummer released the following statement:

"In the past four and a half years, Del Cielo has surpassed what any of the three of us thought our band would be. It's been an honor to travel around the country and meet people. Our band has existed through turbulent political times as well, and our final show as a rock for choice event (Saturday, September 23 Richmond, VA VOX ROX at VCU with Bellafea and Ben Davis) seems fitting given our two most recent Supreme Court vacancies.. It's been so fun and we are lucky to have had this experience!"

Basla, Andrea, and Katy please know that your work is celebrated and will be thoroughly missed by everyone involved with Lovitt Records.

Lovitt Records News: Sept 13, 2005

Hello everyone,

Thanks to everyone that made it out to the Lovitt 10 Year Anniversary show, especially those who traveled far distances to come out. The show was amazing and one that will be remembered for some time to come. A lot of people have helped out and supported the label over the past 10 years and we really appreciate it. Special thanks, of course, go out to all the bands we have worked with as they are all amazing people and musicians and we have been honored to work with them.

Anyone that videotaped or took pictures of the Lovitt 10 Year Anniversary show or the last Engine Down show in Richmond, we would really appreciate it if we could get copies for possible use in the next Lovitt DVD or the Engine Down DVD. You can email: [email protected] with the subject "footage/pictures" for more information on how to get stuff to us. We can use anything you have!

Engine Down has been a huge part of the label the past eight years, and we are really going to miss them. All of them are going on to new, exciting things and will always be our great friends. We thank them for all the great memories and the music they created that touched a lot of people. It is nice that they were able to go out on their terms and were able to do their final show in front of friends and family. Everyone at the show was truly part of something special that words cannot fully express.

We have a lot of exciting news to report in a few weeks about new releases and new bands. We will be kicking off the next 10 years with a bang!

Take Care,

The Lovitt Family
