Lovitt Show - Final Details

09.02.2005

Hello everyone,

Lovitt Records will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this Saturday, September 3rd, at the Black Cat in Washington, DC . It is Engine Down's last DC show and their second-to-last show ever. It is also Basla from Del Cielo's last DC show with the band and the last Navies show for a while, as Ed from the band will be attending law school in the fall.

The show will start on time and bands (other than Engine Down) will be playing short sets so come early! Plus, the show will be filmed for use in a future Lovitt DVD.

The first 50 people that enter the show will receive a copy of the Lovitt Transmissions: Volume 1 DVD.

Our good friends from Shirts for a Cure will be selling new exclusive t-shirts at the show from Engine Down, Del Cielo, Frodus, Majority Rule, Darkest Hour, and others. The proceeds of the shirt sales provide financial assistance to underprivileged women who cannot afford the expense of fighting breast cancer. If you are coming to the show from out of town and buy your tickets in advance, e-mail us at [email protected] with where you are coming from and your name and we will hook you up with something special. We can also let you know good places to stay and eat while in town.

We also have a lot of other news to report. Let’s start with some band changes:

2.    Decahedron has gone on indefinite hiatus following the cancellation of their last U.S. tour. Shelby and Jason both are quite busy with other projects at the moment, which you can read more about on their website (www.decahedron.net). Their new six-song CD entitled 2005 is out now. It was recorded with Don Zientara at Inner Ear. Continuing with guest bassist Jake Brown (Moments in Grace) after the departure of Johnathon Ford, the tracks are a continuation of their impassioned, pointed assault on puppet presidents and shadowy superstructures. The CD is enhanced with a full live set in Quicktime of their 2004 MACROCK performance.

3.    After four-and-a-half years, Basla has decided to step down from Del Cielo after the shows they have scheduled through the end of September. The Lovitt 10th Anniversary show will be the last D.C. show with the current line-up. We hope that people are able to get out to the band’s final shows with her – she’s a great bass player and a wonderful person. We will all miss working with her in Del Cielo and know she will do great things in the future. Katy and Andrea are not sure of the exact future of Del Cielo but they plan on playing with someone new and seeing what happens. We certainly hope they continue playing in the future and we’ll keep you updated!

4.    Dame Fate has decided to stop the band. They had been playing out with Marty Violence on guitar but with everyone’s different, hectic schedules, it was hard for them to stay active so they decided it was better to call it a day. We are sure that all of them will continue to play music and we will inform you as they do new things.

Now onto better news:

5.    The Grey just finished recording their stunning full-length. It will be mastered in the next few weeks at Silver Sonya. No release date for it yet, but we will be releasing an online-only EP in the meantime for people to enjoy. We hope to have that online in a month or so. The band features members of bands such as Shotmaker and Three Penny Opera. The band will be touring Canada, Europe, Japan, and hopefully the US (if the Border Patrol decides to let them back into the country). You can find out more about the band by visiting their website .

6.    The Rosebuds started to record their songs for their split CD with Ben Davis. They recently left for tour with Teenage Fancllub and hope to finish recording when they return home. Speaking of Ben Davis, he recently got married and we are so happy for him and his new family!

7.    The Navies EP, An Estate, has been getting rave reviews from press, and people who saw them on their recently completed U.S. tour were blown away . The band is going to take a break as Ed is going back to school in the fall but they hope to stay active. They recorded two new songs while they were on tour, which we are excited about.

8.    We are excited to announce that we will be releasing an Engine Down DVD sometime in the future. The band will be recording their final tour, which will comprise a large portion of the DVD’s content. We are looking for any footage that people might have of the band for possible use. Any thing from overseas and older tours would be exceptionally helpful. If you have anything that you think would be helpful, please e-mail us or feel free to send footage to us at PO Box 100248, Arlington, VA, 22210. Also, we definitely appreciate anyone who can tape shows on their last tour and send us footage – please e-mail us if you are a documentarian for this tour!

We also got in a repress of the Engine Down S/T LP; like the first pressing, they are all on 180-gram vinyl.

9.    Fin Fang Foom is back out playing shows and writing some new songs.

10.  Rah Bras’ new full-length, WHOHM, will be released towards the end of the year and it is nothing short of jaw-droppingly intense and dramatic. They are figuring out their tour plans at the moment and should have some shows booked in the near future.

11.  We are in the planning stages of getting together a Lovitt Transmissions: Volume Two DVD. We are looking for footage of any of the following bands: Bughummer, Del Cielo, Navies, The Grey, Decahedron, Ben Davis, Maximillian Colby, Pinebender, and Dame Fate. If you think you have video that would be good enough to make the DVD, please let us know by e-mailing [email protected] with the subject "Lovitt DVD."

12.  The Lovitt live series, a series of digital-only releases, will be going up on download sites in the near future. The first couple are Frodus’ “Live at Black Cat,” Sleepytime Trio’s ‘Live At Black Cat,” and Ben Davis’ “Live on XM Radio.” More to be announced soon.

Next time, we hope to have more news about some other stuff we have been working on, including more DVDs!

Take care,

Team Lovitt

News

05.13.2005

Hello everyone,

We are happy to announce that you can now order the Navies and Decahedron CDeps from the site. The official release date for both is June 13th. Both bands will be starting separate tours in the next few weeks to support their releases. A little more info on both is below, along with some other news.

An Estate is a five-song CDep from Navies, a hellishly loud band out of Washington, DC. They've toured relentlessly over the past year, and after releasing a split 10-inch with A Day In Black and White via Level-Plane records, the band has landed at Lovitt for their most recent batch of noise. We are really excited to be working with them and think you will enjoy their CD a lot.

The Decahedron six-song CD entitled 2005 was recorded with Don Zientara at Inner Ear.

Del Cielo's new full-length, Us vs. Them, came out March 7th. A follow-up to 2003's Wish and Wait, Us vs. Them is a collection of charged rock songs and contemplative ballads that alternately evoke passion, rawness, and a carefree outlook that are both refreshing and vital. The record has been getting coverage everywhere, including features in Thrasher, Alternative Press, and Guitar Player! The band has some upcoming shows scheduled, including a free in-store at the Tower Records in Fairfax, VA, on May 21st at 2pm.

We are please to announce we will be working with The Grey from Canada and putting out their full-length, which they are currently recording. The band features members of bands such as Shotmaker and Three Penny Opera. The band will be touring Canada, Europe, Japan, and hopefully the US (if the Border Patrol decides to let them back into the country). We added photos and their bio on our site and hope to add a MP3 soon. You can find out more about the band by visiting their website: http://thegreymusic.com

We just got in a repress of the Engine Down S/T LP; like the first pressing, they are all on 180-gram vinyl. All orders for the vinyl will get a free Engine Down button and sticker. The band is finishing up a European tour and are doing a full US tour at the end of the summer with des_ark and Bellalea.

Fin Fang Foom is back out playing shows and planning to do a short tour in July. They have also been writing some new songs.

Rah Bras recently finished recording and mastering a new full-length entitled WHOHM that will be released in early fall; it is nothing short of jaw-droppingly intense, dramatic, and stunning.

Ben Davis recorded and mixed his songs recently for his half of the split CD with The Rosebuds. The Rosebuds plan on recording their part in the next few months and the release should come out sometime in early fall.

This fall is our 10-year anniversary of doing the label -- hard to believe! We are hoping to have some special events and/or a release to celebrate, and if things come together, we will let you know.

We will be starting to offer some exclusive songs to some of the digital download services, including live sets and outtakes, so be on the lookout.

We are working on some exciting releases for later in the year; we hope we can give you more news on next update. It is going to be a busy year for us over here!

Take care,

Team Lovitt
